Ramrai Dighi is the second largest water body in Barendra region, 4 km away from the upazila headquarters, near Uttargaon village.

Transportation

You have to come to Ranisankail upazila of Thakurgaon district by bus from Dhaka. Then Ramrai Dighi can be reached by bus, truck, motorcycle, bicycle, van, rickshaw and CNG. Van and rickshaw fare (15-20) Taka.

Details

Uttargaon Mauzay of Hosengaon Union in Ranisankail Upazila of Thakurgaon District is located 3 km south-west from the upazila headquarters. The pond covers a total area of 42.20 acres with 18.34 acres of high banks and 23.82 acres of watershed. Ramrai Dighi is the 2nd largest in size among the ancient reservoirs in Barendra land. The length of the lake is 900 meters in north-south direction and 400 meters in width in east-west direction. There are numerous ancient monuments scattered all over Bangladesh, which are not reaching people due to lack of publicity. The name of the history is Ram Ray. A voluntary organization called Ranisagar Foundation was formed in 2003 around the pond. With the initiative of the foundation, more than 1200 litchi trees along with other fruit trees and various herbs and forest trees have been planted on the bank of the pond. Every year the fruits of litchi trees are sold by the foundation and scholarships are given to poor and meritorious students studying in various educational institutions. Any nature lover can't fail to be impressed by the vast array of greenery and the pulsing water of the pond. The lychee trees on the banks and the birds singing in the water of the pond make the beauty of Ramrai even more attractive. Ranishankoil Ramrai Dighi The oldest and largest dighi in Thakougaon district may be five hundred to thousand years old. Its exact history is not known. Moreover, initiatives are being taken from the district and upazila to develop this large reservoir as an amusement park and tourist center.
